Travis Kelce pushes Andy Reid: Laurent Duvernay-Tardif surprised by the gesture

According to former NFL guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, no player is more important than the head coach, and Travis Kelce surprised him by attacking Andy Reid during Sunday's Super Bowl game.

This strong push from the Kansas City Chiefs tight end to his driver went around the world. Reid and Kelce quickly made peace after the game, with the 65-year-old praising his offensive star's intensity.

Duvernay-Tardif won the Super Bowl in 2019 with these two men. He saw that this gesture of frustration was unusual and therefore somewhat worrying.

“I was a little surprised,” admitted the Quebecer in an interview on the show “Salut Bonjour” on Monday morning. You need discipline in a team. You need a coach to set the “pace”, there is a certain hierarchy that is established because you need to have trust in your coach to call the right plays. As a player you have to give your best.”

“When I saw that, I said, 'Oh… Are we going to see that indiscipline again like in the Bills game or other games?' Frustration, we haven't seen that much from the Chiefs in recent years. I said to myself, 'Phew, I hope they win, otherwise we're going to hear a lot more about them,'” Duvernay-Tardif added.

Nightmare avoided

Reid recently underwent a hip replacement and if he had fallen after Kelce's action, “LDT” believes the incident could have turned into a nightmare. As a good player, the coach liked that his protégé helped him test the strength of his lower body.

“It finally seems like the win wipes everything out,” the retiring offensive tackle admitted. We could have asked each other questions because it requires solidarity. I know that they have it, the solidarity, that they get along well with each other, but we shouldn't feel bigger than the “coach”.

It took overtime, but the Chiefs eventually beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22, avoiding awkward discussions…
