Travis Scott’s first post-Astroworld appearance: A pre-Oscars party

Travis Scott made his first appearance since the Astroworld tragedy at a private, celebrity-filled pre-Oscars house party in Bel Air, California, on Saturday night.

TMZ first reported on Scott’s brief appearance, which included a mix of rapping and DJ-ing at a party reportedly attended by Leo DiCaprio, Venus and Serena Williams, YG and Tobey Maguire.

Video surfaced Sunday morning of Scott delivering his hit song “Sicko Mode” to guests of the house. This was the first time he has stood at the microphone in front of a crowd during a fatal crowd at NRG Park in Houston since the Astroworld festival tragedy in November 2021, which left 10 fans dead from injuries.

While Scott hasn’t exactly been hiding since the incident — it’s hard to avoid the limelight when you’re dating a Kardashian, and he’s attended public events like basketball games and Super Bowl parties in the months following the tragedy — his appearance at The Pre-Oscars Party suggests he’s ready to pursue his music career despite the many lawsuits he’s currently facing.

Both the families of the victims of the tragedy and hundreds of those injured in the crowd have sued the rapper and Astroworld promoters, including a $2 billion class action lawsuit filed against them. Outside of the bitter court battle, Scott recently announced his event security initiative, Project Heal, which families of Astroworld victims have branded a “PR stunt.”

Scott will reportedly face a much larger audience on a much larger stage in April when, as Kanye West has claimed, rapper West takes the stage during Yes’s two headlining sets at Coachella; Scott was originally announced as headlining the fest – he was originally set to headline Coachella 2020 ahead of the Covid-19 pandemic – but his 2022 performances there were dashed in the wake of the Astroworld tragedy.
