Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence appeared to have suffered a serious ankle injury inflicted by his own teammate when Walker Little stepped on him in Monday night’s game against the Bengals.
Then Lawrence’s own body weight appeared to force his ankle to twist further before Bengals player Trey Hendrickson fell on top of him, inadvertently aggravating the injury.
Lawrence initially lay there in pain, tried to get up, but then collapsed back to the ground, throwing his helmet to the ground and hitting the ground, his face showing a mixture of pain and frustration.
He had to be helped off the field by two trainers, but he moved very slowly and immediately took an X-ray when the stadium fell silent.
The Jaguars said it was questionable whether he would return with about three minutes left in the game, but Lawrence appeared to be done for the day as he was filmed wincing in pain as he tried to make his way through the tunnel move. Curiously, Lawrence hobbled down the tunnel with the help of two trainers, rather than the team arranging a cart for him to avoid the risk of aggravating the injury.

The Jaguars entered Monday night’s season 8-3 and have won seven of their last eight games.
But if Lawrence is anywhere near as badly injured as he looked, it would be enough to derail their hopes for the rest of the season.
CJ Beathard took the field for the Jaguars to replace Lawrence, with Beathard facing off against the Bengals’ Jake Browning – even without first-choice quarterback Joe Burrow.
It appeared to be a costly evening for the Jaguars, who also lost wide receiver Christian Kirk to a groin injury in the first game of the night.
Little, who stepped on Lawrence’s ankle, also suffered a hamstring injury.
