Trevor Noah is leaving The Daily Show

Trevor Noah leaves The Daily Show.

It comes seven years after the comedian joined the Comedy Central series. Noah took over from Jon Stewart in 2015.

He revealed the news while taping the show on Thursday (see video above). He is the last late-night host to go after James Corden’s announced exit from the Late Late Show in 2023 and the cancellation of Samantha Bees Full Frontal.

He is said to have been working with the network “for a long time” to figure out how to keep up with the demanding daily schedule.

The show has been a regular Emmy nominee, but has lost out to HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver in the grand prize category every year since Stewart left.

Noah said he felt a sense of “gratitude” and thanked the audience. “It was wild,” he said.

“I remember when we started so many people thought it was a crazy bet, I still think it was a crazy choice, that random African,” he said. “What a trip it was. It was absolutely amazing.”

He pointed out all the things he’s been through — the Trump presidency, the pandemic. “After the seven years, my time is up,” he said. “In the most beautiful way. I loved hosting this show.”

He added that he will figure out the timing and continue hosting the show “for now.”

“We are grateful to Trevor for our amazing partnership over the past seven years,” said a spokesman for Comedy Central. “With no timetable for his departure, we are working together on the next steps. As we look ahead, we’re excited for the next chapter in The Daily Show’s 25+ year history, which continues to redefine culture through insightful and hilarious social commentary, helping audiences make sense of the world around them. “
