Gwyneth Paltrow says she briefly thought a 2016 skiing collision was actually a sexual assault, and was “frozen” when a set of skis suddenly “forced my legs apart.”

Terry Sanderson, 76, has accused the Hollywood star of colliding with him on a ski slope at Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah in February 2016, leaving him with “permanent traumatic brain injury, four broken ribs, pain, suffering, Loss of zest for life, emotional distress and disfigurement”.

Meanwhile, Paltrow claims it was Mr Sanderson who bumped into her – and that he subsequently told his daughter he was “famous”. The Goop mogul is expected to be called to the witness stand by Mr Sanderson’s lawyers today.

In court Thursday, Sanderon’s attorney Robert Sykes slapped the star’s legal team for asking his daughter about allegations by another daughter that her father was abusive.

Mr Sykes claimed that Paltrow’s team only took this route because the actor was “concerned about the progression of this case”.

“You can’t just attack someone’s character just because their client is concerned about how this case is going,” he said.

Mr. Sanderson is seeking $300,000 from Paltrow while she is seeking token $1 in damages and coverage for her attorneys’ fees.

Terry Sanderson’s lawyer has claimed Gwyneth Paltrow is “concerned” about the way the trial is going.

Expert Testifies About Ski Hit and Run

On Thursday, the jury heard testimony from Dr. Richard Boehne, who said Mr Sanderson’s injuries could only have been caused by a blow from behind.

“He was hit from the side and behind by someone, remember that person landed on top of him. People who fall don’t break ribs…it takes something else,” he said.

“If you were given the choice of whether Mr. Sanderson would hit Ms. Paltrow or Mrs. Paltrow would hit Mr. Sanderson, you would have to pick Mrs. Paltrow hitting Mr. Sanderson from behind and falling on him to explain the broken ribs.”

“If you were to compare two scenarios … there is only one scenario that would explain sufficient force to break those ribs and that would be Ms Paltrow hitting Mr Sanderson from behind and falling to the ground.

“Essentially, he was like a pillow, if you will.”

Why is Gwyneth Paltrow on trial?

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow’s day on the slopes in Park City, Utah was cut short seven years ago when she had to take some time to rest after colliding with another person coming down the hill.

She is now taking part in a civil trial that began on Tuesday (March 21).

As she was climbing the hill on February 26, 2016, another skier rammed her from behind. She suffered minor injuries, for which, she says, the man immediately apologized. She adds in her lawsuit that she was “shaken and upset.”

Gwyneth Paltrow claims the extent of the injuries was exaggerated

Ms Paltrow says in her filing that Mr Sanderson’s injuries are exaggerated because an examination was conducted with his doctor which found no deficiencies in his cognitive function, the allegation said.

The film star’s files say medical records show he was diagnosed with a “mild” concussion and spent “prolonged periods” on holiday abroad following the accident.

The counterclaim also alleges that Mr. Sanderson had 15 chronic medical problems and that he had told his doctor a year earlier that he was blind in his right eye and that vision in his left eye was getting worse.

“She did not strike him or give him a concussion, brain injury or broken ribs,” Ms. Paltrow’s filing reads.

Retired ophthalmologist heard ‘hysterical screaming’ before collision.

Mr Sanderson claims Ms Paltrow descended the beginner’s slope of the Bandana Run on Flagstaff Mountain “out of control”, according to Court TV.

He claims she hit him so hard that he passed out. At a press conference in 2019, he said that just before the collision, he “heard this just hysterical screaming like … King Kong in the jungle or something.”

He said at the time that he thought the speed at which Ms Paltrow allegedly approached him might explain the extent of his injuries. “A little little bullet can make a big hole,” he said, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.

At that press conference announcing the lawsuit, Mr Sanderson said he noticed a series of large “slow down” signs as he went down the Bandana slope, so he slowed down but still stayed with the flow of other skiers who were came down the slope.

“It was just instantaneous,” he said in 2019. “I got hit in my back. … It felt like it just propelled me.”

He said he remembered not being able to control himself as he went down.

“And that’s all I remember up to this point — just get out,” he said.

Paltrow says she didn’t ask how Terry Sanderson was doing after the accident

“He hit me and I was very upset,” she told the court.

She said her ski instructor asked Mr Sanderson how he was and he replied, “I’m fine.”

And she said she’s now asking for more than a “token $1.”

“For me, there is a line between the $1 I would receive and the legal fees that would be reimbursed,” she added.

Gwyneth Paltrow paid nearly $9,000 for private ski lessons

“That’s what they asked for,” Gwyneth Paltrow said with a deep sigh. “That’s what Deer Valley charges if you ask for a private tutor, unfortunately that’s the fee.”

She was asked if Terry Sanderson injured her in the accident.

“He did. When we went over my right knee, it felt like it had been overextended and my back hurt,” she said.

The Hollywood star told the court she had a massage after the incident but did not require medical treatment.
