Tribute series: RBO is celebrated by Cirque du Soleil in Trois-Rivières

It is the work of Rock et Belles Oreilles, or RBO for short, which will be celebrated next summer as part of the Cirque du Soleil Tribute Series. The show will be offered from July 17 to August 17, 2024 at the Cogeco Amphitheater in Trois-Rivières.

Formed in 1981, the comedy group is celebrated as much for their biting and funny skits as their music, with classics such as “Bonjour la Police”, “I Want to Pogne” and “The Wild Fire of Love”.

The last time RBO was in the spotlight was in 2014, when the group lit up Montreal’s Place des Festivals, and the following year during their shows at the Bell Center and Videotron Center.

For the tribute series, we promise a “festive journey into the crazy world of Rock et Belles Oreilles,” which will be “an extraordinary dive into the exploded, silly and deliciously sloppy world of the most famous Quebec comedy group of their generation.” This was clarified on Thursday.

“With this work we want to pay tribute to the humorous group by highlighting RBO’s iconic art and music. The group’s comedic skits and songs are unforgettable for several generations and it is precisely their unifying side that will be the focus of the show’s creative content, said Cirque du Soleil group president and CEO Stéphane Lefebvre.

Happy clowns

The members of the group, particularly André Ducharme, Bruno Landry, Guy A. Lepage and Yves P. Pelletier, have expressed that they are “honored and moved to receive this honor from Cirque du Soleil,” saying that they have been “treated as clowns” for four decades. Two other illustrious members have left the group, but RBO fans have never forgotten them: we’re talking about Chantal Francke and Richard Z. Sirois.

Tickets for this eighth edition of the Cirque du Soleil Tribute Series are now available online. The Cogeco Amphitheater seats 3,500 people in its stands and another 5,500 people on the grassy promenade.
