MONTREAL — In accordance with the wishes of the Lafleur family, the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday announced events for the coming week ahead of Guy Lafleur’s funeral.

Out of respect for the public that has supported Guy over the years, the Lafleur family have agreed to share their grief with the community. And as per the family’s wishes, all activities will reflect the image of the late hockey legend: they will be humble and approachable.

At tonight’s game at the Bell Center, all Canadiens players will wear the famous #10 as a ceremonial patch on their jerseys. To honor Lafleur’s legacy, the team will host a special pregame ceremony in memory of the legendary player and man he was.

Lafleur will be on display at the Bell Center on Sunday, May 1 from 12:00pm to 8:00pm and Monday, May 2 from 10:30am to 3:00pm. Fans wishing to pay their last respects to Lafleur are invited to visit the Bell Center via the main entrance at 1909 Avenue des Canadiens-de-Montreal.

The national funeral will be held Tuesday, May 3 at 11:00 am at the Cathedral of Mary Queen of the World at Rene-Levesque Blvd. and Mansfield. At the family’s request, the events are organized by the Canadiens in collaboration with the Protocole du Gouvernement du Quebec.

Members of the public wishing to offer their condolences can visit the Canadians’ website.

Fans who wish to honor Lafleur’s memory by making a contribution to the Guy Lafleur Fund for Cancer Research can make a donation to the Fondation du Center Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) on his behalf.

The Lafleur family thanks the media and the public for continuing to respect their privacy during this difficult time.
