The High Representative remembered the Sheikh as a generous humanitarian who helped alleviate human suffering and mobilize support for millions of needy people in the Middle East and around the world.
His personal commitment to collective solutions to build peace remains an inspiration, he added.
“As we honor the memory of Sheikh Nawaf today, we also remember our own commitments to the principles he championed in this room and in communities around the world,” Guterres emphasized.
For his part, the President of the 78th General Assembly, Dennis Francis, remembered the Emir as a guide for the progress and prosperity of his country.
He stressed that he was continuing Kuwait's long tradition of multilateral engagement on a range of issues, from resolving disputes and leading humanitarian activities to working across political borders to help promote sustainable development.
According to Francis, his vision of a better future and a more just and peaceful world underpinned his strong commitment to lasting peace and stability throughout the Middle East.
