MIAMI – Tropical Storm Cindy formed over the Atlantic on Thursday evening, joining Tropical Storm Bret, which is swirling in the Caribbean.
At the time of the 5am Friday update, Cindy was about 990 miles east of the Lesser Antilles with sustained winds of 45mph. It was moving in a west-northwest direction at a speed of about 24 km/h.
Cindy will continue on his west-northwest course for the next few days, but is not currently expected to pose a threat to Florida.
“It will still remain a tropical storm and not a hurricane,” chief meteorologist and hurricane specialist Ivan Cabrera said, adding that wind shear in the upper layers is expected to keep the storm in check.
