Tropical Storm Fiona, the sixth of this cyclone season, is moving further west this Friday to approach the northern group of the Lesser Antilles by nightfall.
As the Master of Science Armando Caymares Ortiz, chief specialist of the forecast center of the Institute of Meteorology, told , as of six o’clock on Thursday afternoon it was about 665 kilometers east of the island of Antigua with a maximum sustained updraft to 95 kilometers per hour, in gusts higher and one central pressure of 1006 hectopascals.
Caymares Ortiz pointed out that Fiona has an opportunity to gain organization and intensity as she advances to the northern part of the Lesser Antilles arc.
While not currently a threat to Cuba, the Forecast Center will be closely monitoring its development and progression.
