Troye Sivan has caused a stir online after claiming he doesn’t know much about Cher’s acting career.
The 28-year-old Australian singer revealed this gap in his knowledge of pop culture in his polygraph interview with Vanity Fair earlier this week.
Hooked up to a polygraph, an offscreen interviewer asked the Rush hitmaker if he thought he was a better actor than 77-year-old entertainment legend Cher.
“Was she in Mamma Mia? “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie with Cher,” said the star, who is openly gay.
This response has drawn the ire of many people online as the video has been shared on social media.

On X (formerly known as Twitter), responses to the video were filled with commenters expressing their disbelief and outrage.
“Moonstruck not knowing is crazy!” “It’s probably her most iconic role,” was one response.
“Burlesque is literal!” wrote another commenter, referring to Cher’s musical film starring pop star Christina Aguilera.
Sivan also drew criticism from a number of LGBT social media users, slamming him for not knowing his “queer history.”
“I think LGBT people (who come from English speaking countries) who haven’t seen a film with Cher really need to be educated,” reads one post.
“It’s almost like saying, ‘I’ve never heard a Madonna song,’ or something like that. This is LGBT history… just like you…”

In another report, the pop star was told to “put yourself in your place,” referencing a common slogan on “Rupaul’s Drag Race” that encourages self-improvement, while another told him what would happen if he would enter the drag queen competition.
“Rupaul would have lip-synced him his entire life,” they quipped.
Troye is no stranger to online backlash and was recently criticized for lacking body diversity in the video for his new single ‘Rush’.
The raunchy video begins with a man banging his own perky butt with the star at a pool party filled with handsome shirtless men.

“I love Troye Sivan but this ‘Rush’ video kind of makes me feel,” one fan tweeted about the music video.
“It seems like a case study of how white gay people view queer people as a whole.” There isn’t a single fat person in the entire video. “Just white twinks and chiseled bodies.”
However, a number of Twitter users defended the star.
“Am I the only big boy to see yourself dancing poolside to Rush by Troye Sivan this summer?” they wrote.
“Song of the Summer – Rush by Troye Sivan,” added another.

The star’s new album Something To Give Each Other will be released on October 13, five years after his last album Bloom.
Troye, who recently starred in the HBO series The Idol, is clearly excited about the new music.
Something To Give Each Other will be released on October 13, five years after his last album Bloom.
In a recent Instagram post, Troye apologized for keeping his fans waiting, writing, “I didn’t want to take five years to make this album – the Bloom tour was happening (lmk if you came ), then I started working on it.” then c*ckbig19 (COVID-19).
“Then, every moment in between, The Idol was always working on the album… and now here we are.” Enough excuses now. Enough said ‘soon’, this is for YOU.’
