According to Trudeau, “the overall vision of this energy transition valley is extremely exciting,” he said during the portion of the meeting open to journalists.

“Of course there is a great enthusiasm for energy and transformation in Shawinigan. Bécancour, the battery sector is also excellent and exciting,” emphasized Mr. Trudeau.

The creation of the Energy Transition Valley of Bécancour, Shawinigan and Trois-Rivières was announced with great fanfare by the various levels of government last spring.

This innovation zone, the third recognized in Quebec, focuses on the battery sector, transport electrification and industrial decarbonization.

At the time of the initial announcement, Quebec Premier François Legault spoke of a “new economic golden age for the Centre-du-Québec and Mauricie region.”

Mr. Trudeau reiterated that enthusiasm on Saturday, but reminded that with all this economic growth, we must not lose sight of the needs and priorities of the people who live in these two regions.

“It’s easy to end up talking about the economy and investments without talking enough about the people,” he claimed.

To ensure that through all this growth, which brings with it challenges, the citizens and families of the region are at the heart of everything we do. Because it is important that people feel confident about the plan we are implementing for the future at a time of transition and transformation in our economy and our world.
