Trudeau stuck in India thanks to broken plane – The Hill

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Canadian delegation had to stay another night in India on Sunday after their plane encountered technical problems while trying to leave the Group of 20 (G20) summit.

“As we departed for the airport, we were alerted by the Canadian Armed Forces that CFC001 was experiencing technical issues,” the prime minister’s official said in a statement shared with The Hill. “These problems cannot be fixed overnight. Our delegation will remain in India until alternative arrangements are made.”

Trudeau arrived in India on Friday, where several G20 member states were meeting in New Delhi.

Trudeau met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, where Modi stressed India’s concerns about “anti-India activities by extremist elements” in Canada, according to a statement from India’s foreign ministry.

“The association of these forces with organized crime, drug syndicates and human trafficking should also be a concern for Canada,” the ministry said.

The ministry said Modi insists that India-Canada relations have “shared democratic values, respect for the rule of law and strong people-to-people ties”.

Modi’s criticism follows Canada’s announcement last week that a judge would lead a public inquiry into whether China, Russia, India and other countries interfered in the 2019 and 2021 Canadian federal elections, in which Trudeau was re-elected.
