Donald Trump holds a campaign rally in Texas on Saturday (25th) at a location critics say is home to his farright supporters as he attempts to launch a presidential campaign haunted by threats of criminal charges becomes.
For what the former president announced as his first major rally of the 2024 presidential campaign, Trump called on supporters to gather at an airport in Waco, Texas, to cheer on his candidacy for the GOP nomination.
Waco is marking the 30th anniversary of a federal raid on the Branch Davidian religious sect that left 86 dead, including four police officers. Some rightwing extremists see the attack as a moment of government overreach.
In an email, a Trump campaign spokesman said Waco was chosen because it’s located between several major population centers and has the infrastructure to host a major event.
Trump faces mounting legal danger in a number of ongoing criminal investigations, including one in Manhattan related to the alleged bribery of porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 White House campaign.
