“I’m a more honest man than you”: Trump storms out of interview with Piers Morgan

Donald Trump has been found in contempt of procedure by New York Attorney General Letitia James, who is investigating allegations of fraud in the Trump Organization’s real estate business.

The ex-president and his associates have so far refused to comply with Ms James’ demands for documents, resulting in a judge handing out a $10,000 daily fine until the documents were turned over.

Meanwhile, Mr Trump’s much-publicized interview with Piers Morgan has started with the ex-president insisting he deterred an invasion of Ukraine during his tenure by threatening Vladimir Putin ‘like he’s never been threatened before’ .

Ahead of the screening of their talk, Mr Morgan described Mr Trump as “pathological” in his fixation on allegedly stealing the 2020 election, a conspiracy theory the journalist insisted there was no evidence for.

In the interview, Mr Trump takes aim at Meghan Markle and claims that she is “playing Harry by the nose” while claiming that the Queen should strip the couple of all royal titles.

Son of a famous American artist charged with rioting in the Capitol

Vincent Gillespie, the son of prominent American post-war artist Gregory Gillespie, has been charged with taking part in the January 6 riot.

He was among a mob trying to force his way through a tunnel on the Capitol’s Lower West Terrace — an attack that by his own description was almost successful, investigators said his scalp, the Associated Press said that day on Crime scene.

“If there were another 15, 20 guys behind us pushing, we could have won it.” Mr Gillespie added that he and others were trying to break through an opening.

“I was with a couple of other guys. And then we started fighting them and they hit us and put that pepper spray stuff in your eyes. But there were a few people crowded behind us,” he added.

Can Trump run again in the 2024 election?

Former President Donald Trump hasn’t stopped raising funds since moving from Washington DC to his Mar-a-Lago Florida estate and amassing a war chest well over $100 million.

He was back on the streets ahead of the midterm elections this year, holding state-by-state MAGA rallies with candidates he backed, insisting before the crowd that he had not legitimately lost to Mr. Biden and repeatedly implying that he plans to avenge his defeat by running again.

Today, Mr. Trump’s hold on the Republican Party is overwhelming, and none of this year’s main contenders have broken away from the former reality TV host.

Graeme Massie explains the legal struggles that could potentially prevent Donald Trump from running for a second term.

Trump allies pleaded to stop rioting at the Capitol and rallied afterwards, news shows

A series of text messages from former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows between Election Day and President Joe Biden’s inauguration shows how former President Donald Trump’s allies went from pleading for an end to violence on Jan. 6 to reaffirming their support.

The treasure trove of over 2,300 texts offers a glimpse of how Trump’s inner circle, Republican lawmakers and Fox News anchors worked behind the scenes to overturn the election results, CNN reported.

On Jan. 6, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote to Mr. Meadows: “Mark, I’ve just been told there is an active gunman on the second floor of the Capitol. Please tell the President to calm people down House members also texted Mr. Meadows to call for an end to the riots in the Capitol.

Former White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus said, “TELL THEM TO GO HOME!!!”

The former president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., sent: “On this one go to the mattresses. They’ll try to screw his entire legacy with it when it gets worse.”

Holly Baxter from the Independent checked it out so you don’t have to.

“And I can attest that the Piers/Donald interview is the most embarrassing television thing you will ever watch in your life. If you’re the kind of person who has to turn away from Borat during the worst parts, you won’t even get past the opening sequence.”

Will Donald Trump be allowed back on Twitter after Elon Musk takes over?

Twitter’s announcement that it has inked a $44 billion sales deal with billionaire Elon Musk has given many Republicans a boost of positive energy. Members of Congress, including Marjorie Taylor Greene and Jim Jordan, have hailed the news as a possible breakthrough for “free speech” and hoped some of those who were “censored” could get their accounts back.

But Donald Trump still stands out the most, writes The Independent’s Andrew Naughtie.
