Trump says he will “do whatever it takes” to select a new “great Republican speaker” who will help a “very experienced President, ME!”
Former President Donald Trump has claimed he will do “whatever it takes” to “assist” the selection process for a new House Speaker as long as he helps a “very experienced President, ME!”
The real estate mogul-turned-reality-TV-star-turned-president posted on his social media platform Truth Social on Tuesday, just a day after former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was ousted from office in a coup Hardline Republicans.
He claimed that his position as the current Republican front-runner for the 2024 presidential election gave him the power to help select the major role in Congress.
He wrote: “I’m running for President, with a 62 point lead over the Republicans and am ahead of Crooked Joe Biden by 4 to 11 points despite the Democratic Party’s massive efforts to dismantle, weaponize and interfere with elections, but will make it. “do whatever is necessary to assist in the short-term selection process for Speaker of the House until the final selection of a GREAT REPUBLICAN SPEAKER is made.
“A speaker who will help a new but very experienced President, ME, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

There is currently a heated race between top Republicans to see who will take the coveted post.
Jim Jordan, the U.S. Representative for Ohio’s 4th Congressional District, threw his hat into the ring, as did the Republican Party’s No. 2 leader, Steve Scalise, the current House Majority Leader who represents Louisiana’s 1st District.
Trump himself appears to have announced his intention to run for speaker of the House of Representatives, even though the Republican charter states that this important role cannot be held by someone who is under indictment.
He shared a photo of himself wearing a MAGA hat and holding a gavel, which House speakers use in their daily work in Congress.
While there is no law in Congress requiring the speaker of the House to be an elected member, Republican statutes would prevent Trump from taking the position.
Trump appeared to have thrown his hat in the ring for the speaker position, with a cryptic post on Truth Social that showed him holding a gavel similar to the one used by previous speakers
“A member of the Republican leadership must resign if charged with a crime that is punishable by a sentence of two or more years in prison,” Republican conference rules state.
Trump faces up to 71 years in prison on his Georgia charges alone, and it is one of only four charges he faces.
McCarthy himself said he would not run for speaker again, telling reporters: “I fought for what I believe in. I believe I can keep fighting, but maybe in a different way.”
McCarthy was voted out of office on Tuesday by a vote of 216-210 after fringe Republicans forced his resignation from office in a historic vote.
The 58-year-old, who represents California’s 20th district, was accused of colluding with Democrats during a last-minute bill that narrowly prevented the U.S. government from shutting down.
Representative Matt Gaetz, who led the charge against McCarthy, said: “Kevin McCarthy is a creature of the swamp.” He rose to power by collecting special interest money and redistributing that money in exchange for favors. “We’ll break the fever now.”
Several Republicans have said they will meet on October 10 to discuss who will take on the role of speaker before a vote on a new speaker on October 11.
