Trump tells Haley that she will be investigated for “things she doesn't want to talk about” if she stays in the race, sending an ominous warning shot to his rival ahead of the South Carolina primary

  • He said she would be investigated “in 15 minutes.”
  • Trump railed against her in his speech after making fun of her birth name

Former President Donald Trump appeared to include a threat at the end of his victory speech in New Hampshire, which was all about raging at rival Nikki Haley for portraying her own second-place finish as if she had won.

Trump spoke shortly after Haley, who trailed him by more than 10 percent of the vote on Tuesday, vowed to her supporters that she would campaign in her home state of South Carolina, describing herself as “sleazy” and a “fighter.”

Trump, who regularly rails against the “witch hunts” against him, referred to investigations after attacking Haley over her reaction to the results and even her dress in a wild victory speech.

“These are very dishonest people and you always fight that, and just a little note to Nikki: She's not going to win,” Trump said. “But if she did, these people would be investigating her in 15 minutes, and I could already give you five reasons why.” Not big reasons. A few things she doesn't want to talk about. “But she will be under investigation in a few minutes,” he said, expressing suspicion without naming any specific inappropriate behavior.

Former President Donald Trump said that if Nikki Haley won, “these people would be investigating her in 15 minutes, and I could already give you five reasons why.” He made the innuendo after blasting her for acting like that behaved as if she had won.

“And so would Ron [DeSantis] been there, but he decided to get out. “He's decided – now Vivek, I don't think so at all, because he's perfect,” Trump said, concluding with a joke about Vivek Ramaswamy, who was on stage supporting him during Trump's victory speech.

Trump, who is facing four criminal charges and was acquitted as president after two impeachment trials, had already attacked Haley early in the night over her speech.

“When it was seven o'clock, someone ran onto the stage dressed smartly, but now I just went there, but it said 14. It was seven.” And you know, we have to do what's good for our party. And she had stood up and I said, “Wow, she's making a speech like she won.” She didn't win. “She lost,” he said.

Haley escalated her criticism of Trump after finding herself in a two-person race, calling him and Joe Biden 80-year-olds (Trump is 77) and questioning his mental acuity after he spoke to them in a speech Nancy Pelosi had mixed up.

Trump had mocked her Indian birth name in reference to his “Birther” attacks on Barack Obama, calling her “Nimbra.” Her birth name is Nimarata.

Haley has avoided some of the scrutiny that comes with being a frontrunner after emerging from a crowded field. Days ago, quoted witnesses who contradicted her denial of an affair in 2008. The New York Times reported on contracts she secured during her time as a state legislator that tripled her income, but did not disclose this until 2010.
