Trumpist lawmakers begin impeachment probe into Biden

Congressional Republicans on Thursday took a cautious first step in opening a possible impeachment probe into President Joe Biden, which has been called for by a handful of Trumpists.

These elected officials accuse the Democratic leader of being responsible for an “invasion” at the United States-Mexico border because of his immigration policies.

The US Constitution provides that Congress can impeach the President with “treason, bribery, or other serious felonies and misdemeanors.”

President Biden “endangered the security of the United States and the health of the American people,” argues elect Lauren Boebert in the counts she is defending. The Colorado Republican believes the White House tenant deserves to be removed from office for this reason.

However, a formal impeachment procedure remains very hypothetical due to a lack of political support.

The rest of the Republican opposition refuses to venture into this territory at this time for fear of turning the trial into a purely partisan affair.

Instead of directly deciding on an impeachment trial, Republicans in the House of Representatives on Thursday opted to vote in committee first – thereby slowing down the Trumpists’ initiative.

Democrats protested the impeachment inquiry.

Never in American history has a president been impeached. Three were indicted: Andrew Johnson in 1868, Bill Clinton in 1998, and Donald Trump in 2019 and 2021. But all were eventually acquitted.

Richard Nixon chose to resign in 1974 to avoid a certain impeachment by Congress over the Watergate scandal.
