An earthquake shook the Philippines. There was a brief warning of a “destructive tsunami with waves of potentially fatal heights”.
Authorities gave the green light following a major earthquake in the Philippines. The US tsunami warning system said there was no longer a risk of a tsunami. “Based on all available data, the tsunami threat from this earthquake has passed,” he said. However, small fluctuations in sea level may still occur in some coastal regions.
Tsunami waves of one meter or more were previously expected to occur in some areas off the coast of the Philippines and southwestern Japan. According to European earthquake monitoring agency EMSC, the tremors had a magnitude of 7.5 and occurred in zone of Mindanao, the second largest island in the Philippines. (APA/Portal)
