Tuesday weather: Heavy rain and snow accumulations expected in certain areas

15 to 20 centimeters of snow accumulation is expected in certain areas of eastern Quebec, which could also see heavy rain on Tuesday, while the rest of the province can expect a rainy and gray day.

“Moderate to heavy snowfall will continue into the evening. Accumulations may be lower in coastal locations where snow may melt or even mix with rain today,” Environment Canada warned in a news release Tuesday, urging drivers to adapt their driving to changing conditions.

It is the Minganie, Manicouagan River and Sept-Îles – Port-Cartier sectors that will be most affected by the accumulation of snowflakes, while temperatures hover around freezing and are accompanied by wind chill that will cause the mercury to drop below freezing .

In eastern Quebec, the Chevery and Natashquan regions must instead expect heavy rainfall of 50 to 70 millimeters overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday.

Central Quebec will experience showers throughout the day, while snow precipitation and rain will occur in certain areas such as Charlevoix, Saguenay and Lac-Saint-Jean.

For its part, the Greater Montreal area will not be spared from the showers in the morning, although they should end in the afternoon, leaving cloudy weather with a minimum of 0°C. Skies should clear early Wednesday morning.
