With the permission of Meryl Streep, Princess Leonor was the star of the Princess of Asturias Awards, which took place in Oviedo last Friday. She’s about to come of age and has become the center of attention with her style choices, and this time it was no less. On Thursday, during the previous concert, the Princess opted for an accessible brand, something common in the wardrobe of the Spanish monarchy; Both she and her mother or her sister Sofía usually combine designer brands, mostly national, with designer clothes at affordable prices. She chose an H&M dress, short with floral print, round neck and long sleeves with shoulder pads. The price is 59.99 and is currently sold out on the brand’s website.

On Friday morning, in the audience with the winners, she chose a dress from the Catalan brand Simorra. A shirt-cut garment, with a bow and a bell on the skirt made of subtly transparent chiffon, in the style of her mother, Queen Letizia, who also harmonized with Leonor that morning by choosing a jacket slit almost in the middle of the same Pastel pink tone.

But it was during the gala that Leonor, the presenter, grabbed attention with a set of two signed by designer Moisés Nieto. The color is dark blue (perhaps a nod to the Asturian flag) and consists of a tweed jacket and a pleated tulle skirt. The peplum-cut jacket (that is, fitted and slightly flared at the waist) is reminiscent, albeit in a much more modern way, of Dior’s new look; the silhouette with a defined waist and full skirt that Christian Dior popularized in 1946 and that the French house updates today in a much more functional way. With subtle makeup, the princess complemented the style with some high-heeled Mascaró slingback shoes of her favorite shoe silhouettes and some Bulgari aquamarine earrings that the royal family gave her mother to mark the princess’s birth. Her sister Sofía opted for an asymmetrical two-tone dress with a cut-out at the waist from another Spanish brand, Sevillan Cardié, which specializes in clothing for events.

Moisés Nieto, who has just opened his first store in Madrid, has dressed Queen Letizia several times. Perhaps most notable was the opening of the last ARCO edition, where she wore a long-sleeved pink dress made of shiny technical fabric. The price was around 200 euros. It was she who presented the designer with the National Fashion Award in the New Value category in 2017. Since winning the Best Collection award at EGO Madrid Fashion Week in 2012, Nieto has received several awards and become one of the main representatives of national designer fashion. Its strange mix of innovation and craftsmanship (last year launched La Hacería, the first search engine for artisans in Spain), sustainability and avant-garde have made it a reference for new generations of creatives. The price of their clothing is also generally affordable, with most pieces costing no more than 300 euros.
