Las Vegas police have reportedly arrested a man in connection with the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur nearly three decades ago.
The hip-hop legend was shot four times in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in 1996. The identity of his murderer is still a mystery.
Police in Las Vegas arrested a man Friday in connection with his death, AP sources said.
A police press conference is expected shortly.
He died at age 25 on September 13, 1996, a week after he was shot four times in his car at a red light.
In a separate report, ABC News quoted a senior Justice official as confirming that a suspect had been arrested in connection with Shakur’s murder and that charges would be announced Friday afternoon.
The rapper’s death, one of the most well-known hip-hop rappers, has inspired several documentaries.
Radio host Mike Muse responded to news of the arrest, telling ABC News: “Tupac was a prolific rapper, poet and actor… his lyrics continue to serve as a blueprint for culture and society today.”
“That’s why his death has bothered us for so long; because of what actually happened to him.”
Shakur, whose stage name was stylized as 2Pac, released his debut album in 1991.
He sold more than 75 million records worldwide and was successful in the charts with hits such as California Love, All Eyez On Me and Changes.
