Both an ambulance and a bus were involved in the drama. A traffic accident on a highway in southeastern Turkey killed 16 people and injured 21 on Saturday, August 20, the governor of Gaziantep province said. The governor had previously mentioned an “accident involving a coach, a rescue team and an ambulance (…) on the highway between Gaziantep and Nizip”.
According to the Turkish news agency DHA, the ambulance, a fire engine and a vehicle of a journalist team that had driven to the scene of the accident were hit head-on by a tour bus traveling on the same highway. According to local media, four rescuers, three firefighters and two journalists from the Turkish news agency Ilhas are among the 16 dead.
Images released by the DHA agency showed the rear of a partially shredded ambulance, as well as the bus involved in the accident, lying on its side with the front ripped open.
