The yacht off 140 meters Solaris, linked to Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, has arrived in Bodrum, Turkey. Before docking, some people would have tried to block it with a dinghy. As can be seen in several videos posted on social networks, a group of Ukrainian boys members of a sailing club in Odessa tried to prevent the boat from docking. In the last few days, Abramovich’s vehicles have made their way to Turkey. His private jet has traveled this route several times. In addition to Solaris, Abramovich owns a second yacht. It’s called Eclipse, it’s long gone 160 meters and now it is near Rhodes island. Eclipse would also fly to Turkey. The basis of these movements would be sanctions: while the European Union and the United States immediately decided to open an economic front against Russia, Turkey preferred a softer line. As documented by Agi, there have been several cases of Russian citizens opening bank accounts in Turkey in recent days to escape the economic crisis.
Portals that collect navigational data from boats and those that track air traffic have seen a leap in interest in recent weeks. Here, thousands of people have begun to follow the routes of the Russian oligarchs’ yachts and jets, so much so that Twitter accounts thrive, automatically posting updates about each move and the hijackings in particular. Alex Finley, a former CIA officer, spoke to the Washington Post about a collective glee, that sense of joy one sometimes feels from viewing the problems of others from a distance. It is therefore not surprising that the characteristics of the most wellknown oligarchs cannot even move a port before someone recognizes them. According to the Twitter accounts that followed its path, Solaris has bypassed the waters of all European countries that have imposed sanctions on its legacy.
