TV nostalgia by Marie-Soleil Dion: a magical moment with Nathalie Simard

It’s hard to be a bigger fan of Quebec television than little Marie-Soleil Dion. In addition to being fascinated by the shows offered to her, she also entered competitions for her favorite stars. Later, still steeped in her memories, she made a living out of it…

Marie-Soleil, which youth programs influenced you?

Iniminimagimo

As a child, my favorite series were Iniminimagimo and Passe-Partout. With Iniminimagimo, I really liked the different stories, the stories with the same actors.

Bibi and Genevieve

I’ve always watched a lot of TV, so I liked Les Intrépides or even Bibi and Geneviève. I was a fan; I have already sent a drawing to Bibi. He understood, but he couldn’t read the name […] It’s one of the dramas of my life.

And later?

As a teenager I was there for Watatatow, I listened to Radio Enfer and In a galaxy near you. I was there when Vrak started. I listened to all the programs that were being made; I was a big fan of Quebec TV.

Did you watch too much TV when you were young?

I don’t think so. It wasn’t like today: I couldn’t watch online for hours… It was a passion and it still is today. I’ve finally made it my mission. I liked the stories, the actors. I was curious how things were done, how things went. It was the beginning of a passion.

Are your fondest childhood TV memories of time spent alone, with family, or with friends?

A lot alone, but I also watched a lot of TV with my mother. I listened to his soap operas: Les Machos, Les Dames de coeur, Sous un ciel variable… My father’s and mother’s were also films.

Is there a character or actress that influenced you to become the artist you have become?

Natalie's village

Natalie’s village

I really liked Radio Enfer. I would say that Maria Lopez was a bit like Cathou in Vrak la vie. She was more of the shallow person at school. I really liked this character. When I was young I also really liked Le Village de Nathalie. I went skating with Nathalie Simard at the Galeries de la Capitale. I had won a contest with the entire cast of the show. After that we wanted to eat at McDo. I have pictures of me with Nathalie Simard.

Which universe should the children discover?

Nostalgia, I don’t think it serves them. The world has gone elsewhere. But the main thing we had and they have less of is that we knew a lot more about Quebec culture, we enjoyed a lot more on Quebec TV. I loved Télé-Pirate, Élyse Marquis, Jessica Barker, Marie-France Monette, Caroline Dhavernas. I get the impression that we were more aware of Quebec culture and artists than they were. They have so much access to so many things that there aren’t many teenagers or kids who know the productions here.

►Marie-Soleil stars in the comedy pavilion, the second season of which was recently added to Tou.tv’s Extra catalogue. One can also enjoy his acting while watching the comedy counter offer on Novo. Season 3 airs Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m.
