A series adaptation of Field of Dreams has smashed Peacock, has learned.
The drama, created by Mike Schur and based on Kevin Costner’s baseball-centric 1989 film, was branched straight into the series in August 2021 but will not be streaming on the platform, according to a source with knowledge.
Universal Television, with which Schur’s Fremulon shingle has an overall deal, is in the process of speaking to interested buyers.
Schur is the creator of NBC’s The Good Place and serves as a co-creator on Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Rutherford Falls. His credits include executive producing HBO Max’s Emmy-winning Hacks and Freevee’s upcoming Primo.
THR previously reported that the series was set to be shot entirely in Iowa, where the film took place, although it was not expected to film in the specific locations used in the film.
Schur would write the series and share executive producing responsibilities with Lawrence Gordon (who produced the film), David Miner and Morgan Sackett.
Director Phil Alden Robinson’s original film follows a farmer (Costner) who builds a baseball diamond in a cornfield in hopes of summoning the spirits of legendary figure Shoeless Joe Jackson and his teammates in the infamous Chicago Black Sox.
Amy Madigan, James Earl Jones and Ray Liotta starred in the film, which received three Academy Award nominations including Best Picture.
