An explosion in an apartment in western Germany’s Ratingen on Thursday injured twelve firefighters and police officers who intervened after the fire broke out, local authorities said.
Some of the injured were “severe, even very severe,” said the region’s interior minister, Herbert Reul, to the press.
The fire brigade and police intervened after a fire warning and rescued a person calling for help. When they got there, there was an explosion.
Special police forces arrested the 57-year-old owner of the apartment, who is considered a suspect, on the spot.
In addition, after the arrest, the police discovered a body whose identity was not yet known, as the police also announced on their Twitter account.
The police were initially unable to provide any information about the causes of the explosion.
