Twitter Inc. laid off more employees late Saturday in a fresh wave of cuts to contain costs at the social networking company, now owned by Elon Musk.
The layoffs will hit employees on teams across the company, including engineering and product, according to people familiar with the situation. Some employees learned by email late Saturday that they were being made redundant, the people said, and others tweeted that they learned they were fired when they could no longer log into the internal system.
It’s unclear exactly how many employees were affected, although sources believe it was dozens. The information previously reported that more than 50 people were fired.
Twitter has not responded to a request from Bloomberg News outside of normal business hours.
Among those cuts was Esther Crawford, one of the executives responsible for Twitter Blue, the site’s subscription service, Platformer’s Zoe Schiffer said in a tweet on Sunday.
In the days following Musk’s takeover of Twitter last year, notably in a post that went viral, she tweeted that employees sometimes have to #SleepWhereYouWork to meet deadlines.
Crawford did not immediately respond to a request for comment, which was sent outside of regular business hours.
I just received confirmation that Esther Crawford, Managing Director of Twitter Payments, is not there.

Several startup founders who came to Twitter through acquisitions in recent years tweeted Sunday that they had also been cut, including a founder of newsletter startup Revue and design firm Ueno. Previously, Twitter had tried to avoid slashing founders to avoid having to expedite larger stock awards, people familiar with the company said.
Musk cut more than 3,700 jobs at Twitter last year, or half the company’s workforce, to cut costs following its $44 billion acquisition.
