Elon Musk, majority shareholder of the short message service Twitter, is on the verge of stepping down as CEO. In a Twitter poll initiated by the 51-year-old himself, a majority on Monday spoke in favor of such a measure. Musk had previously pledged to uphold the vote.
New Twitter owner and Tesla boss Elon Musk launched a survey on the short messaging service on Sunday to find out whether he should step down as CEO of the social media platform. Musk wrote about the poll on Twitter that he would bow to the outcome of the vote. The billionaire did not say when he would step down, if poll results suggest that.
“There is no successor,” Musk responded when asked by a Twitter user about a possible change to the post.
Musk’s involvement on Twitter worries Tesla investors that he may be increasingly distracted from leading the electric car maker in times of global economic weakness. Musk has made several controversial changes to Twitter since he took over the social network. More recently, after much international criticism, he again blocked the user accounts of several American journalists.
