Two dead recovered in Mallorca news

Following the disappearance of two German sailors in the Mediterranean a week and a half ago, two bodies were found on the east coast of Mallorca. According to the police, it was initially unknown whether they were the 53-year-old man and his 19-year-old son, who had been missing since August 27th. As the two dead people can no longer be identified visually, a DNA analysis was requested in both cases, he said.

The result should be available in two to three weeks, a spokesperson said today at the request of the dpa. Passers-by discovered the first body on Sunday night near Cala Morlanda. However, the sea was so turbulent that the police were only able to recover the body the following day in Cala Falco, almost ten kilometers further south. The person was only wearing swimming trunks.

The second body was spotted yesterday in Porto Cristo, which is between Cala Morlanda and Cala Falco. The high waves also made rescue difficult. Police said there was a possibility that the bodies recovered were those of German sailors.

Sailors defied storm warnings

The two sailors left Menorca on Sunday of the week before last. Despite the bad weather warning, they wanted to travel from Cala Galdana to Cala d’Or in Mallorca, around 90 kilometers away, on the nine meter long sailboat “Makan Angin”, registered in Frankfurt.

The relatives last had contact with them in the morning of that day and alerted the police when they had not heard from them until the evening. The bodies were found en route to the planned destination port. A large-scale sea rescue search by ships and air, sometimes supported by French forces, was unsuccessful.
