Two Harvard students create free Airbnb for Ukrainian refugees

A million people connected “They need help, now and in a big way,” the 19yearold Schiffmann told CNN. Ukraine Take Shelter launched on March 3 and in just a week, more than 4,000 people placed ads to offer homes to Ukrainian refugees. To date, over a million users have signed up. The website design is simple. Refugees can select the city they can reach or where they want to arrive and see the list of available accommodations with a description. Then you can click on the guest’s phone number or email address to get in touch with them. Kind of an Airbnb, but free.

Avi is a digital activist It’s not the first time that Avi has put its passion for technology at the service of others. In the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, he set up a website to monitor the impact of Covid19. That same year, he drafted another that chronicled the Black Lives Matter protests across the United States. “I see it like this: Almost everyone has a smartphone and an Internet connection,” explains the Harvard student. “There’s always something happening around the world, an earthquake, a war, a pandemic, and there’s always an opportunity to use technology to improve the lives of people in these humanitarian crises.”
