Large-scale operation across the canton: Valais police are looking for a 36-year-old man. He allegedly fired several shots in two locations – and knew the victims.

Shots left two dead and one injured in the Swiss municipality of Sion on Monday morning. A manhunt is underway, Valais cantonal police said. According to investigators, a suspect fired several shots in two different locations in the city of around 35,000 inhabitants, in the canton of Valais. Large-scale operations are underway in the city itself and throughout the canton.

Shortly before 8 a.m., the man shot several people for unknown reasons, Valais cantonal police said. According to initial findings, the perpetrator knew his victims.

Security authorities published a photo of a 36-year-old man and asked the public for information. “The cantonal police emphasize that this person is dangerous and that under no circumstances should they attempt to arrest or approach him,” she said.

The Valais daily newspaper “Le Nouvelliste” reported online that part of Sitten had been cordoned off by police following the shooting at a business. Local station Rhône FM cited witnesses who also reported a shooting. The Public Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation into homicide as a subsidiary of intentional homicide.
