Another worrying fact: projectile impacts were detected in a residential building in the area where the victims were hit. Residents were in the building but no one was injured, said Véronique Dubuc, media officer for the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM), on Sunday evening.

After several calls from citizens, emergency services were called to the corner of Pascal Street and Matte Avenue around 8 p.m. on Sunday. At the scene they found two 18-year-old men with gunshot wounds to their lower bodies. They were taken to the hospital while still conscious and their lives were not in danger, according to Officer Dubuc.

This is a residential area in the north of Montreal, with streets lined with apartment buildings. According to witnesses to the incident, several people in a vehicle shot at the victims as they walked on Rue Pascal. The attackers then fled.

A perimeter was set up and SPVM officers and a dog handler were deployed. Bullet casings were found at the scene. Projectile impacts were also found at a building in the area.

An SPVM investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding this armed attack.
