Two new Toyota Prius

The Prius, an emblematic model at Toyota, will be renewed in 2023 and will be on display at the Toyota stand at the Montreal Auto Show.

The Toyota Prius 2023 clearly stands out from the previous model, especially with its bolder design inspired by the Toyota Crown. At the Montreal Auto Show, Toyota is exhibiting two different versions, the Prius and the Prius Prime.

The original Prius, now with all-wheel drive

The so-called “original” Prius is a non-rechargeable hybrid model, the technology that made the model famous around the world. There is no need to connect the engine, simply fill the tank with petrol and let the powertrain optimize fuel consumption.

Thanks to a new 2.0-litre engine (compared to the previous 1.8-litre), the 2023 Prius’ performance takes a leap forward as power increases from 121 to 196 hp. But most importantly, we remember that the Prius now comes standard with all-wheel drive.

For the rest, this fifth-generation Prius has the advantage of offering a new, more welcoming look, as well as a modernized cabin where technology takes up a lot of space. The Limited version, which is at the top of the range, comes with a 12.3-inch touchscreen along with luxury touches like heated rear seats and an inductive cell phone charger.

The Prius Prime also in Montreal

The Prius Prime is a plug-in hybrid model that plugs into an outlet to offer 100% electric range. Toyota has not yet announced the final figures, but the new battery in the Prius Prime should make it possible to drive around sixty kilometers without consuming a single drop of petrol.

The 2.0-liter engine is also a bit peppy than the non-plug-in model, with a combined output of 220 hp. This is also noticeable when accelerating, because the new model is now 4.6 seconds faster during the exercise from 0 to 100 km/h! However, unlike the regular Prius, the Prius Prime is not available with all-wheel drive.

Inside we note the arrival of a revised dashboard, a redesigned steering wheel and a central screen that can measure from 8 to 12.3 inches depending on the version selected. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated seats and steering wheel, 19-inch alloy wheels and the active safety system Safety Sense 3.0 are standard in all models.

The 2023 Toyota Prius will hit dealerships in early 2023. As for the Prius Prime, we’ll have to wait until spring.
