The first fire occurred around 2 a.m. in a tanning salon at 4096 boulevard de l’Auvergne in Neufchâtel.
The second case occurred just before 6 a.m. at Armoires PMM. The company is located on Provinciale Street in the Sainte-Foy sector.
“The patrol officers noticed signs of a break-in and flames,” said Pierre-Olivier Lévesque, spokesman for the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ). The fire department was called to the scene and was able to quickly bring the fire under control.
According to our information, petrol cans were found on site. Given its criminal nature, the fire station was tasked with investigating.
Last summer, the building authority revoked Armoires PMM’s license. She accuses the owner of the kitchen furniture manufacturer Maxime Morency of serving as a candidate for businessman Jean-Noël “Sarto” Lacroix, who is known to the authorities.
The company challenged this decision but ultimately lost in the appeals court.
No arrests
In both cases no one was injured. The perpetrator or perpetrators were not caught by the police, confirms Pierre-Olivier Lévesque. There were no arrests overnight.
Could the two events be related? The investigation will clarify that, replies Mr. Lévesque. The causes and circumstances of the fires are currently unknown.
Several arson attacks were recently recorded in Quebec City. “We are actively working on these issues,” assures Pierre-Olivier Lévesque. Our investigators are working hard. “We are trying to find the suspects associated with these fires,” he said.
