Two people were killed after a 32-year-old gunman opened fire on a house and a hospital in Rotterdam. A teenager fights for her life. Dutch police told reporters that the motive for the attack was not yet clear. The man was arrested and is said to have acted alone.
“A 32-year-old resident of Rotterdam was arrested. He is suspected of being involved in two acts of violence. We rule out the possibility of a second man,” the Rotterdam police wrote on X.
The man, armed and wearing riot gear, opened fire in an apartment in the Dutch city and then broke into a nearby medical center. There were fires in both locations that were later extinguished. Elite police units searched a hospital in the Dutch city looking for the suspect, who was armed with a pistol, authorities said, ruling out a second gunman. Images broadcast on television showed scores of people, including doctors and patients, rushing out of the hospital as police in bulletproof vests entered the facility and police helicopters flew over the scene.
“I heard shots and screams, there was panic everywhere.
