Two Teens Convicted of Murder of Brianna Ghey, Transgender Girl, in England – The New York Times

In December 2022, confidant “Girl Brianna was born a boy but lived as a girl and used female pronouns, it said. By January, however, “X's fascination with Brianna had grown darker,” prosecutors said, leading her to confide in “Boy Y” that she had tried to kill Brianna with an overdose of ibuprofen tablets.

“People already know she's depressed,” Girls wrote. But “for some reason she has a high tolerance, like today I gave her something that should have been enough to kill her,” she added. Although Brianna felt sick and vomited, “she didn't die,” “Girl X” said in the message. According to the documents, Brianna's mother confirmed that her daughter had been sick that week and that her vomit contained what she thought was grape peel, but may have been the remains of ibuprofen tablets.

In the days that followed, the two teens continued to discuss different methods to kill Brianna and four other people they knew, prosecutors said, and by late January had formulated their plan to stab her in the park. On Feb. 10, “Girl Y” confirmed he brought his hunting knife, prosecutors said.

Brianna, who had red hair and glasses and was wearing a short gray tartan skirt, long white socks and a fluffy white hooded jacket that day, left her home at about 12:45 p.m. on Feb. 11, according to prosecutors. About an hour after leaving the house, Brianna, who her mother said rarely went out alone, texted her mother: “I'm alone on the bus, I'm scared.”
