Tracey Nix, 65, is charged with manslaughter in the death of her grandson Uriel. The toddler, just seven months old at the time of the incident, is said to have remained locked in the car for a long time in the middle of a heat wave while his grandmother played the piano, according to an affidavit in November 2022, Fox News reports.

The woman then allegedly told police she “suddenly” “got into my head” that the toddler had been in the car all afternoon. It was her partner, nun Ney Nix, who found the child and tried in vain to revive him.

However, it was the second time such a tragedy happened in this family. In fact, almost a year before these events, the child’s older brother had drowned while under the responsibility of the same grandmother.

“When I get home I pick up my little girl and there are ambulances and I’m like, ‘What’s wrong?’ Uriel, Drew Schock, at Fox 13 Tampa Bay. “I had flashbacks […] it was exactly the same scene.”

In December 2021, 16-month-old Ezra was reportedly let out of the house while Tracey Nix slept. The toddler would then have fallen into a pond and drowned. At the time, the authorities could not bring charges due to lack of evidence.

“The 2022 incident is factually distinguishable and charges were filed,” prosecutors said in a statement sent to ABC Action News in Tampa Bay.
