Two women arrested in Florida for serving food mixed with marijuana at wedding reception

A Florida bride and the woman in charge of catering the party were arrested and charged with mixing wedding food, including lasagna, with marijuana and sickening several guests.

According to local police told g1, fiancee Danya Shea Svoboda, 42, and Joycelyn Montrinice Bryant, 31, have been charged with gross negligence, supplying marijuana and violating Florida’s antitampering law. The incident happened in February, but was only released by the police this Thursday.

The food served was reportedly mixed with the plant. Miranda Cady, one of the guests, told police she ate bread with herb sauce and felt nauseous, like her heart stopped.

Candy also told police that she asked caterer Joycelyn Bryant if there was marijuana in the food. “Bryant chuckled and shook his head positively,” the affidavit reads.

Speaking to police, it was reported that Nancy Postma and Belmonte, her daughter, entered the kitchen looking for water and said they were unwell. According to them, one of the team members said, “Well, there’s cannabis in the food.”

Investigators estimated that about 50 people attended the wedding reception. None of the diners surveyed said they knew marijuana would be in the food.

Medical marijuana is legal in Florida, but recreational use remains prohibited.
