Tyler Christopher, best known for his role as Nikolas Cassadine on “General Hospital,” has died. He was 50.
His death was confirmed on GH star Maurice Benard’s Instagram account.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tyler Christopher. Tyler died this morning of complications from a heart condition at his home in San Diego. Tyler was a truly talented individual who turned heads in every scene he performed and enjoyed bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting. Tyler was a sweet soul and a wonderful friend to all who knew him. Tyler was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment and spoke openly about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol. We are deeply devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and father.”
General Hospital EP Frank Valentini released this statement to Deadline on Tuesday on behalf of ABC Sudser: “I am heartbroken by the news of the passing of Tyler Christopher. He was kind, an incredible actor, and a dear friend who was loved by our GH family and Nikolas Cassadine fans. On behalf of everyone at General Hospital, our deepest condolences go out to his loved ones during this difficult time.”
Born in Illinois, Christopher appeared on GH from 1996 to 2016. He also played Stefan DiMera on Days of Our Lives, which earned him a Daytime Emmy. He has previously been nominated four times for his work on the soaps.
In a 2023 interview with Bloomberg Law, Christopher claimed that this sister took advantage of a dark time in his life while he was in recovery by becoming his guardian. The actor had fallen twice due to his drinking; The first time was in 2019, when he reportedly suffered a skull fracture that caused a brain hemorrhage.
Christopher claimed his sister spent $40,000 of his money for her personal use. In court filings and an email to Bloomberg Law, she said she would protect her brother.
Christopher leaves behind two children from his first marriage.
