Typhoon Megi leaves 138 dead in the Philippines

There are 138 victims for that typhoon Megi (tropical storm) had an impact last weekend Filipinas.

The authorities 101 bodies recovered in the town of Baybay, one of the hardest hit by the landslides. Flooding from the storm extended into the provinces of Leyte (hardest hit), Capiz, Aklan, Antique and Iloilo in the center of the country through Wednesday.

Typhoon Megi, christened Agaton in the Philippines, struck the archipelago in a northwesterly direction along the east coast on Sunday, becoming the first meteorological phenomenon to disturb the area in 2022, Telesur reports.

More than 580,000 people were affected by the floods and landslides in regions like Visayas and Mindadao in the south-central part of the country. The media house DW recorded 407 floods and interruptions in the power supply of 63 municipalities.

At least 20 storms hit the Philippines each year. The country is located in the Pacific typhoon belt. Four years ago, the country was devastated by a tropical organism that killed 400 people. (ALH)
