U mad bro Steelers fan complaints ahead of draft Pens

U mad, bro?: Steelers fan complaints ahead of draft; Pens fans concerns ahead of playoffs; Pitt fans are afraid of Kenny Pickett

It’s a Draft Day edition of “U mad, bro?” Naturally, Steelers fans are a little upset.

Pitt fans are, too, since Kenny Pickett plays for his hometown NFL team.

And Penguins fans are starting to think about the draft, too — before the playoffs even begin. It hasn’t been very common in this area for the last 16 years or so.

So, Maulers, after last week’s issue, I’m guessing you’re off the hook. I hope you enjoyed the spotlight while you had it.

Let’s start with Tom. He’s still mad at Kenny Pickett for skipping Pitt’s Bowl game.

That Pickett was allowed to sit out when the team needed him is 100 percent false. He should pay for everything Pitt gave him. I hope he rides the pine wherever he goes and comes to see how that feels having nothing to say on the matter.

Yes! And I thought I held grudges?

Tom, may I suggest that he sat out of the Peach Bowl, at least in part, because he has “no say” on the matter? Because if he got injured, would that reduce his chances of being picked by the highest possible team?

I mean my god! The guy’s hands are a fraction of an inch smaller than Joe Burrow’s and now some are suggesting he might not get drafted until after the first round. Imagine if he sprained an ankle against Michigan State and after the swelling he grew an eighth of an inch? The poor guy may have to sign as a rookie free agent at this point.

Paying Pitt back his tuition is never going to happen. But if he does, I’m sure he could do it with pocket money after his signing bonus. That’s not quite the punitive sword you might think it is.

And by the way, what do you mean by “allowed”? Should he be forced into the field with a cattle prod or something?

Eric hasn’t been all that excited about penguins lately.

Well, I’m being a little less masochistic, Eric. But I understand your frustration.

If your overriding point is that the penguins franchise has arrogantly deafened anyone who might have claimed that the emperor penguins don’t have any clothes — in fact, they skate stark naked — then we agree.

And do they need a cold dose of reality and a slap in the face to see that? Yes, they do.

I’m not sure why this year will be any different after being swept by the New York Islanders or losing to the Montreal Canadiens in the bubble. But one can hope.

Actually not that fast. I know why this summer could be different. new possession. New management. And at least three stars, which have to be paid a lot of money, or they can go through a free agency for free.

Hmmm. Funny what change can do these days, isn’t it?

This guy named Derek and I share a huge anger about the penguins.

Seriously. What’s with it?

I don’t have the metrics to back this up. I don’t have the fancy stats available. And frankly, sorting this out game by game, team by team, 80 games in one season is too much friggin’ work.

I mean, I have to fry bigger fish. I haven’t even scratched the surface of my long snapper scouting designs yet. And the draft is Thursday night. I’m way behind

But he’s right. Or at least it feels like he’s right. Because I can’t imagine any other team in the NHL giving up goals immediately after goals, within two minutes of starting a third, and with about a minute left in a third more than this year’s Penguins.

If I’m wrong, go ahead and shame me. I know exactly how it feels. And for the last month I’ve been dating this guy. It feels like they do it all the time.

Here’s an email from Robert regarding my post suggesting that the Steelers should call up Georgia defenseman Jordan Davis if possible.

Three months ago you didn’t even think Davis was a Steelers pick, and now you’re hopping on board with the pro scouts! Why the sudden change when you were all number one for a second rate QB prospect? They’re still fun, but about as accurate as a Ouija board!

First of all, Robert, never mention a Ouija board and the Steelers draft in the same breath again. It is a known fact that a Ouija board was used to determine that the franchise would select Lima’s Sweed in the second round in 2008.

So don’t make me mad, Ricky Bobby.

Second, I’ve never done what you’re accusing me of. I’ve pumped up Jordan Davis since the SEC championship game. I’ve also always agreed with Mike Tomlin’s stance that as good as Davis is, he probably won’t be available if the Steelers choose.

And I have no idea what “second-rate QB prospect” you’re proposing that I’ve recommended as your first-round pick. The closest I can get is to saying that if the Steelers feel that strongly about Malik Willis or Pickett, then go ahead and draft that person. They haven’t attempted to draft a first-round QB since 2004. Check it out if you think one of these guys is the one for the next 15 years.

I don’t But if you do, don’t be afraid to try. And I’ll be here to rip them up when the player runs out.

That is what I said.

So, I don’t know who you’ve read or heard confusing me with, but can I at least acknowledge the clicks when you’re blowing me up for your opinions?

Someone named “Not Lucy” agrees with my disgust at the proposal to extend the NHL playoffs.

I wouldn’t necessarily say “ruined”. That’s a bit of an exaggeration. Adding the ninth and tenth play-in seed will not “ruin” playoff hockey. It will only make the regular season less important and infuse more mediocrity into the postseason tournament.

It will sting even more next season too, when Brock McGinn is on Sidney Crosby’s wing and the Penguins finish in 11th place and still don’t make it.

Finally, let’s end with a Browns fan named Dan. He would like to address the idea of quarterback Baker Mayfield joining the Steelers if the Cleveland Browns cut him.

Obviously you are a great man…….self proclaimed that is.

Baker will be a great QB one day and hopefully the Steelers pick him up and he destroys the Browns. I’ve been a Browns fan all my life, but now I’ve left them. Their headquarters is full of idiots, as is Coach (Kevin) Stefanski. He’s the one they should have let go.

You’re obviously a great man too, Dan. At least that’s how I felt after your first two observations.

The next one about Baker makes me less sure of your credibility.
