UAW strike looms before Thursday’s deadline as no deal is reached with any of the big three automakers – WDIV ClickOnDetroit

According to the UAW, there is no deal with any of the three major automakers.

On Friday evening (Sept. 8), UAW President Shawn Fain referred to his trash can as the “Big 3 Proposals.”

Fain went over what the current offers on the table look like via Facebook Live.

Highlights include 10% wage increases at Ford and GM and several bonuses.

Stellantis offered a 14.5% wage increase.

“A 14.5% increase over four years is completely inadequate,” Fain said. “It doesn’t offset inflation, it doesn’t offset the decades-long decline in wages and it doesn’t reflect the huge profits we’ve generated for the company.”

All automakers have abolished Fain’s 32-hour week, salary increases of 40% or more, increased pension benefits, returned pensions and abolished the tiered pay system.

Automakers moved in the years it took to reach full scale.

The current contract expires on Thursday (September 14th) at 11:59 p.m. Fain has repeatedly said this is a tough deadline for the union.

He warned that a strike would occur, possibly against all three automakers, if deals were not reached by Thursday.

“Stand up, be prepared to stand up for yourself, for your families and your communities,” Fain said.
