The company plans to add a gas surcharge of up to 55 cents per ride over the next two months, as well as 45 cents per Uber Eats order.

Uber says the move is meant to help drivers cope with rising gas prices.

“We know that prices are rising in the economy, so we have done our best to help drivers and couriers without burdening consumers too much. In the coming weeks, we plan to listen closely to feedback from consumers, couriers and drivers,” said Lisa Winship, Head of Uber Drivers in the US and Canada. “We will also continue to monitor gas price movements to determine if we need to make further adjustments.”

The surcharge will take effect on March 16 and will last for “at least the next 60 days.”
