“I didn’t want to do it that way [mon coming out], but the opportunity to do it when I was ready was taken away from me. I tried to keep my love life out of the media,” the 25-year-old athlete tweeted.

The American also spoke about the unease he felt about his sexuality.

“I’ve dated girls my entire life and smothered the feelings I felt in high school on the wrestling team, in college, and even after realizing part of my dream by getting into the UFC.”

Jeff Molina is also clear: he has not planned to come out in the short or medium term if he practices a sport “where the majority of fans are homophobic”.

“I wanted to be recognized for my talents and for what I’ve dedicated 11 years of my life to, not for being ‘the UFC bi fighter,’ which I’m sure will translate to ‘the gay UFC fighter,'” he laments.

Despite the homophobic comments he’s received since the intimate video was released, Jeff Molina says he’s received an outpouring of support from several UFC athletes and the LGBTQ+ community.
