UK influencer Andrew Tate remains in jail on human trafficking charges

Prosecutors, who have been investigating a pimping case for many months, searched several of the Tate brothers’ properties at the end of December.

A court in Bucharest on Tuesday rejected a request for the release of British masculinist influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan, who were arrested in Romania in late December in a procuring case.

“They remain in custody,” said a spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office responsible for combating organized crime (DIICOT), Ramona Bolla.

The two former kickboxers, aged 36 and 34 respectively, had previously represented their case in court during a closed hearing lasting several hours.

“Danger to public order given the seriousness of the crimes”

When they arrived in a police car early in the morning, they appeared handcuffed and dressed all in black. At the exit, her lawyer Eugen Vidineac wanted to be “self-confident”, but in the evening the court ruled that the appeals were “unfounded”.

Charged by prosecutors with “organizing a criminal organization, human trafficking and rape,” the Tate brothers had appealed their 30-day pre-trial detention order issued on December 30.

The judges had charged them with a “risk of absconding” and a “danger to public order given the seriousness of the offences”.

So far, six potential victims have been identified. Duped by the two men who feigned feelings for them, they would have been violently forced into prostitution and the production of pornographic films, and some would have been isolated.
