LONDON, June 13 (Portal) – British police said a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after three people were found dead in the street and three others in hospital after an attempted run-over in the central English city of Nottingham.

Two people were found dead on a city center street just after 4am (0300 GMT), police said, before officials were alerted to another incident nearby involving someone driving a van , tried to run over three people.

You are being treated in the hospital.

Another man was also found dead on a street just outside the city center.

“This is a terrible and tragic incident in which three people have died,” said Chief Constable Kate Meynell.

“We believe these three incidents are all linked and we have one man in custody. This investigation is still in its early stages and a team of investigators is working to determine exactly what happened.”

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and was in police custody. No details were given as to the motive behind the incident, but the police statement made no mention of the involvement of anti-terrorist officers.

“It is too early to comment on the casualty figures or the exact nature of the incident,” said the East Midlands Ambulance Service.

A woman identified as Lynn told BBC television she saw a van hit a man and woman who were lying in the road.

“He drove straight into these two people. The woman was thrown onto the curb, the man shot into the air. There was such a bang. I wish I had never seen it. It really shook me.”

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak thanked the police and emergency services for their response to the shocking incident in Nottingham and said police must be given time to do their job.

“My thoughts are with the injured and the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives,” he wrote on Twitter.

Several major roads were closed and Nottingham’s tram network was suspended. Rescue workers could be seen all over the city.

Meynell said much of the city will remain under lockdown while the investigation continues.

“Terrible news for our city today,” Alex Norris, a lawmaker for Nottingham, said on Twitter. “The thoughts and prayers of our community are with all those affected.”
