Ukraine and Japan announce new sanctions against Russia ANSA news agency

(ANSA) — ROME, 26 MAY — The Japanese government today announced the expansion of its sanctions against Russia over the war in Ukraine, blacklisting several Moscow military officials and imposing export restrictions on 80 Russian companies.

In particular, Russian commanders and military personnel from the self-proclaimed People’s Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk and the occupied areas of the Ukrainian regions of Zaporizhia and Kherson are being targeted by Tokyo. The list published by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs includes Colonel-General of the Airborne Forces Mikhail Teplinsky and Sergei Karakayev of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces. Companies affected by the Japanese sanctions include the Russian mobile operator MegaFon, the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, the Russian Foundation for Advanced Research Projects in Defense Industry, the design bureau NPO Lavochkin, the truck manufacturer Kamaz and the truck manufacturer Skolkovo Foundation and the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology. The Japanese government also said it would soon ban the export of a number of items that “help strengthen Russia’s industrial base.” (HAND).
