Ukrainian forces stepped up attacks on Russian-held territory in the south while repelling Moscow’s attacks on the eastern city of Avdiivka, according to military experts and officials.

The Ukrainian military broke through enemy lines after intensifying attacks across the Dnipro River near the southern city of Kherson.

“Ukrainian actions appear to be more extensive than previously observed tactical raids,” the Institute for the Study of War think tank said in a report.

In the town of Avdiivka, just nine miles from the Moscow-controlled city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, Kiev’s forces managed to repel and hold their ground against Russia, which launched relentless attacks there earlier this month, President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed.

“Thank you to all our guys who, day after day, powerfully defend the defense and destroy the occupier,” Zelensky said in a video posted on Telegram.

“Today, Russian losses are truly shocking, and the occupier’s losses are exactly what Ukraine needs.”

Ukraine received new support from the United States in the form of long-range tactical missile systems (ATACMS), which were deployed for the first time this week.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba confirmed to reporters that the US would continue to supply Kiev with modern missiles, The Telegraph reported.

Officials said the ATACMS could help reshape the course of the war by allowing Ukrainian troops to attack previously inaccessible supply lines, air bases and rail networks used by Russia in occupied territories.

“This is a direct result of the agreement between President Zelensky and President Biden reached at a face-to-face meeting in Washington at the end of September,” Kuleba said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry criticized the US for supplying Kiev with long-range missile systems. publication on X that this was a clear sign that “Washington has once again shown its willingness to escalate the conflict.”

However, the US has begun withholding from Ukraine 155mm artillery shells that it had acquired from a secret stockpile in Israel since January.
