  • The Ukrainian security service attacked one It is reportedly an important railway linking Russia and China.
  • One train was hit by explosives while passing through a tunnel, and a second was hit by detours.
  • A Ukrainian official told the BBC that they had anticipated the diversion and the Russians had fallen into the “trap”.

Ukrainian security services attacked a railway line deep inside Russia in an act of sabotage, then attacked again when the trains were diverted.

A freight train was attacked by four explosions as it passed through the Severnomuysky Tunnel in Russia’s far east on the Baikal-Amur line to the border with China.

But the attack did not end there, as Ukraine’s security service SBU expected traffic to be rerouted after the attack and struck again when a train crossed a bridge as part of the alternative route, reports said.

A Ukrainian official told the BBC that the Russians had fallen into the “trap” and said: “This is exactly what the SBU was counting on.”

The official said there were explosive devices planted on the 30-meter-high bridge, which exploded as the train passed by.

The second attack was not confirmed but was reported by Ukrainian media and the Russian Telegram channel Baza.

Baza reported that investigators had opened a criminal case for a “terrorist attack.”

Russian Railways described the incident as “a freight train fire” in a statement posted on Telegram.

The SBU has not publicly commented on the attack.

Speaking about the sabotage, a Ukrainian official told Politico: “This is the only serious railway connection between the Russian Federation and China. And currently this route, which Russia also uses for military deliveries, is paralyzed.”

The first train exploded in the tunnel and the second train caught fire, burning four cars and damaging two others, Politico said.

As Politico reported, the second puff spilled jet fuel over 150 square meters, or over 1,600 square feet.
